Publication & IT Department

The Publication and Information Technology Department is responsible for the supervision and administration of publication and IT related activities lie within the framework of the mandates undertaken by the Statistical, Economic and Social research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC).

The Centre exercises special care to ensure that the end-results of its activities in the areas of socio-economic research, statistics and information, and technical cooperation and training are documented and disseminated as widely as possible through the publication of regular papers, reports, periodicals, directories and books in the three official languages of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). As a result of the recent cooperation it harmoniously runs with the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), and acquisition of hi-tech printing equipments; the Centre now has increased its capability of producing reports in four-color-processing technique to give its readers a better reading experience. The Centre’s publications are published also online through its web site ( and circulated in hard copies to a large number of libraries, universities, government offices and individual researchers in the OIC Member States and elsewhere. They are also exchanged with the publications of a large number of national institutions and international organisations.

Within the Centre, the Library plays an important role by acting as a Depository and Exchange Library for many well-known international organisations. The Library also serves the general public as a reference library in statistics, social and economic research, and training and technical cooperation specifically relevant to the OIC Member States.

In addition to the redacted technical reports and statistical annals, the Department also publishes two major periodicals: The Journal of Economic Cooperation and Development (the quarterly of the Centre) is one of the leading scientific academic journals in applied research in development economics appearing in English and indexed/abstracted in JEL/Econlit.

The department is also responsible for developing, running and maintenance of the Centre’s online databases and IT infrastructure to support the Centre’s activities. The secure and efficient operation in the IT infrastructure of the Centre involves the maintenance of the local area network, provision and support of email and internet services, support of the computer environments and solving users’ problems.

The Centre hosts its own web, database and application servers for better operability. The Centre continuously improves the IT infrastructure of the OIC Statistics (OICStat) Database providing data on socio-economic indicators under categories for the 57 OIC Member States dating back to 1970. The content of this database, with regular updates, is enriched essentially on the basis of information collected from national and international statistical sources. As a visualisation add-in integrated with the OIC Statistics (OICStat) Database, the Centre has implemented the SESRIC Motion Charts (SMC) Module which is highly capable to present the data stored in the OIC Statistics (OICStat) Database in an interactive and dynamic way. The SMC uses the Adobe Flash Technology for a seamless interactive experience on the data chosen for analysis. In addition to the BASEIND, the Centre also hosts various databases of Roster of Statistics Experts, Roster of Environmental Experts, Directory of National Statistical Organisations, Directory of Universities, Directory of Research Institutions, Directory of Training Institutions, and Training Opportunities.
